Whenever I see an apple I can't help but think of the young Isaac Newton who spotted a falling apple, and wasn't content just living in ignorance as to why it fell, but was curious and wanted answers.
I think it's such a constant and wonderful reminder how it is physically impossible for us to know everything, so we should never shy away from learning no matter what our age!

~ Hat ~
Round 1~ Taking your 7.00mm crochet hook and ruby red yarn, start of by making a Slip Knot, then crochet 3 Chains. Crochet 7 Half Double Crochets into the first chain you made. Slip Stitch into the top of chain 3. You should have 8 half double crochets now.
Round 2~ Chain 2, then crochet a Half Double Crochet into the same stitch. Crochet 2 Half Double Crochets into every stitch all around. Slip Stitch into the top of chain 2. You should have 16 half double crochets now.
Round 3~ Chain 2, then crochet a Half Double Crochet into the same stitch. *Crochet 1 Half Double Crochet into the next stitch. Then crochet 2 Half Double Crochets in the next stitch. Repeat from the * all around. Slip Stitch into the top of chain 2. You should have 24 half double crochets now.
Round 4~ Chain 2, then crochet a Half Double Crochet into the same stitch. *Crochet 1 Half Double Crochet into the next 2 stitches. Then crochet 2 Half Double Crochets in the next stitch. Repeat from the * all around. Slip Stitch into the top of chain 2. You should have 32 half double crochets now.
Round 5 -11~ Chain 2. Crochet 1 Half Double Crochet into every stitch all around. Slip Stitch into the top of chain 2.
Fasten off, and weave in loose ends.~ Stem & Leaves ~
Stem
Round 1~ Taking your 5.00mm crochet hook and chocolate brown DK yarn, start of by making a Slip Knot, then crochet 2 Chains. Crochet 4 Single Crochets into the first chain you made. Slip Stitch into the top of chain 2. You should have 5 single crochets now.
Round 2 - 6~ Chain 1. Crochet 1 Single Crochet into every stitch all around. Slip Stitch into the top of chain 1.
Fasten off, and weave in loose ends.
Taking your tapestry needle, sew the stem onto the top of the hat, right in the middle.
Leaves
Taking your 5.00mm crochet hook and moss green DK yarn, start of by making a Slip Knot, then crochet 9 Chains.
Crochet 1 Single Crochet into the second chain from your hook. Crochet 1 Half Double Crochet into the next stitch. Crochet 1 Double Crochet into the next stitch. Crochet 1 Triple Crochet into the next 2 stitches. Crochet 1 Double Crochet into the next stitch. Crochet 2 Half Double Crochets into the last stitch. Chain 2. {Note: You are now going to be working on the opposite side of foundation chain.} Crochet 2 Half Double Crochets into the first stitch. Crochet 1 Half Double Crochet into the next stitch. Crochet 1 Double Crochet into the next stitch. Crochet 1 Triple Crochet into the next 2 stitches. Crochet 1 Double Crochet into the next stitch. Crochet 1 Half Double Crochet into the next stitch. Crochet 1 Single Crochet into the last stitch. Chain 2, then Slip Stitch into the ninth chain you made at the start of the leaf.
Fasten off, and weave in loose ends.
You'll want to create 3 leaves.
Taking your tapestry needle, sew the leaves to the top of the hat, around the stem.
