Meadow Afghan Square Crochet Pattern

Today I'm just as excited to share my second/last square for "The Blog Hop Crochet Along"!
One of my favourite things about crochet is the ability to create the most beautiful textures using just handful of basic stitches!
What's one of your favourite crochet stitches/techniques to use?



What You'll Need
5.00mm Crochet Hook
150g Worsted Yarn {10ply} - I used Drops Paris
Scissors
Tapestry/Wool Needle

Finished Size
12 inches x 12 inches

Dark Old Pink
Light Old Pink
Pistachio



A few weeks ago I was asked to join a blog hop crochet along, and I immediately said I am so excited to be joining The Blog Hop Crochet Along today!
I'll working with these lovely bloggers to bring you some of the most beautiful crocheted squares!

Here's how it is going to work:
  • Every day (Monday - Friday) a new square pattern will be posted on one of our ten blogs. 
  • You can join in the fun by crocheting each day's square on that day or whenever you have time.
  • Share your progress and post photos of your squares in our Facebook Group.
  • By the end of the Crochet Along you will have twenty 12" squares all ready to be pieced together into a beautiful afghan just in time for the holiday season.
  • Finally, we will be hosting some fabulous giveaways!!! You could win some beautiful Lion Brand Yarn to make your own afghan, $100 CASH money OR our completed afghan! That's right, we are going to be piecing all of our squares together and shipping an afghan out to one very lucky winner.

~ Meadow Afghan Square ~

Square
Taking your 5.00mm crochet hook and worsted yarn (Dark Old Pink), start of by making a Slip Knot, then crochet 51 Chains. {Note: Add or take away sets of 10 foundation chains if you'd like to create a smaller or bigger sized square.}
Row 1~ Chain 1. Crochet 1 Single Crochet into the same stitch. Crochet 1 Single Crochet into the next stitch. *Skip 3 stitches, then crochet 7 Double Crochets into the next stitch. Skip 3 stitches, then crochet 1 Single Crochet into the next 3 stitches. Repeat from the * all across, making sure to crochet 1 Single Crochet in the last 2 stitches instead of the last 3 stitches.


Row 2~ Chain 2, then crochet 4 Double Crochets Together in the same stitch and across the next 3 stitches {Note: You can find a helpful video tutorial of the 4 Double Crochets Together stitch HERE}. *Chain 3. Crochet 1 Single Crochet into the next 3 stitches. Chain 3, then crochet 7 Double Crochets Together. {Note: You can find a helpful video tutorial of the 7 Double Crochets Together stitch below}.
Repeat from the * all across, making sure to crochet 4 Double Crochets Together in the last 4 stitches, instead of crocheting 7 Double Crochets Together.


Row 3~ Chain 2. Then crochet 4 Double Crochets into the space/hole in the middle of the 4 Double Crochets Together stitch you created in the previous row. *Skip Chain 3 space made in the previous row, then crochet 1 Single Crochet into the next 3 stitches. Skip Chain 3 space. Then crochet 7 Double Crochets into the space/hole in the middle of the 7 Double Crochets Together stitch you created in the previous row. Repeat from the * all across, making sure to crochet 4 Double Crochets into the space/hole in the middle of the 4 Double Crochets Together stitch you created in the previous row.
Row 4~ Change yarn colour to Light Old Pink. Chain 1. Crochet 1 Single Crochet into the same stitch. Crochet 1 Single Crochet into the next stitch. *Chain 3, then crochet 7 Double Crochets TogetherChain 3. Crochet 1 Single Crochet into the next 3 stitches. Repeat from the * all across, making sure to crochet 1 Single Crochet in the last 2 stitches instead of the last 3 stitches.
Row 5~ Repeat row 1.
Row 6 - 7~ Change yarn colour to Pistachio. Repeat rows 2 - 3.
Row 8 - 9~ Change yarn colour to Dark Old Pink. Repeat rows 4 and 1.
Row 10 - 11~ Change yarn colour to Light Old Pink. Repeat rows 2 - 3.
Row 12 - 13~ Change yarn colour to Pistachio. Repeat rows 4 and 1.
Row 14 - 15~ Change yarn colour to Dark Old Pink. Repeat rows 2 - 3.
Row 16 - 17~ Change yarn colour to Light Old Pink. Repeat rows 4 and 1.
Row 18 - 19~ Change yarn colour to Pistachio. Repeat rows 2 - 3.
Row 20 - 21~ Change yarn colour to Dark Old Pink. Repeat rows 4 and 1.
Row 22 - 24~ Change yarn colour to Light Old Pink. Repeat rows 2 - 4.
Fasten off, and weave in loose ends.


Border
Round 1~ Change yarn colour to Pistachio. Single Crochet all around the edge of your square, making sure to have the same number of single crochets on all 4 sides of your square. {Note: When you reach the corners, crochet 1 single crochet in that stitch. Chain 2, then crochet 1 single crochet into the same stitch again to create a nice corner.} Slip Stitch into the first single crochet.
Round 2 - 4~ Repeat round 1. {Note: Depending on your crocheting tension, you might need to crochet less single crochet rounds or more to achieve a 12 inch x 12 inch square.}
Fasten off, and weave in loose ends.
