Wool And The Gang - Peggy Cardigan Crochet Kit Giveaway

$

Some of you might remember that a couple of months ago Wool And The Gang and I teamed up on a giveaway and quirky Ivory Ocean Slouchy Beanie pattern!
It was such a hit last time that the creative people over at Wool And The Gang reached out to me once again to see if I'd be interested in trying out one of their kits this time, and potentially hosting another giveaway!.. Slight confession, I might have let out a squeal of pure excitement, shortly followed with a whirlwind of emails about which kit I would work with and be giving away.

If you've never heard of Wool And The Gang, you've been missing out! Their website is overflowing with beautiful yarns and modern knitting and crochet pattern kits, with each project featuring a unique and creative twist!.. I also love the fact that they have something for everyone - from the most experienced crocheters to absolute beginners!

After some deliberation I eventually decided on trying out their Peggy Cardigan Crochet Kit, and boy am I glad that I did!

It wasn't long before I heard a loud knock at the front door, and upon opening the door I discovered a large parcel neatly placed on my doorstep. I excitedly opened it to find this paper bag inside, stocked to the brim with everything needed to crochet this adorable cardigan.

Inside were 6 of the softest balls of cotton Aran yarn I have ever felt, named the Shiny Happy Cotton (how quirky). It was love at first sight, touch and stitch! Included also was a crochet hook (6.5mm), tapestry needle, and "Peggy Cardigan" crochet pattern.

For the past year or so, I've crocheted with cotton yarn almost every single day, especially when designing hats and booties! While working with this 100% Pima Cotton Yarn I was quite pleased with how it stacked up against some of my usual favourites. The yarn is as soft and smooth as silk, and the stitch definition is wonderful too!

This is only one of the colours availablebut as you can already see the colours are very elegant and rich which would make any project pop!
The colour I went with in the end was Spearmint Green, which I think creates a very pleasant and feminine appearance.

I couldn't wait to get started on my cardigan, as I haven't really crocheted many garments in the past. It was a welcome challenge! The weather here in Australia is also busy turning warmer, so having a lightweight cardigan on hand on those slightly cool evenings is always welcome.

The "Peggy Cardigan" crochet pattern came in the form of an adorable little booklet. Inside the  booklet there was also a detailed stitch library to help make the learning process all the more enjoyable (perfect for beginners)!

This is my beautiful Peggy Cardigan (in progress!)... I am delighted with how the cardigan finally turned out, and I am so proud to have finally finished crocheting a cardigan, and just in time to enjoy wearing it during the later stages of Spring!

If you have been wanting to try out one of Wool And The Gang's kits for some while, I have some exciting news for you... They've provided my readers with a special code "WATGHOPEFULHONEY” to get 20% off your order! (This discount is only valid till the 13th of November)

There really were so many great kits to choose from!.. Some of my other favourites included the Any Time Circle Scarf and the Sun is Shining Top... In saying that, I might just have to crochet the Piazza Shoulder Bag next time!

The Peggy Cardigan Kit Contains:

  • 6 balls of WATG's Shiny Happy Cotton (100% Pima Cotton,  I'm sure that makes your crocheting fingers tingle in excitement just as much as mine!)
  • 6.5mm (K/10 1/2) crochet hook
  • The "Peggy Cardigan" crochet pattern (In the form of a cute little booklet)
  • A small sewing needle - To sew in all those ends!
  • "Wool And The Gang's" packaging (To keep all your crochet goodies together)
Level: Advanced

This giveaway is open worldwide, and closes on the 15th of November (AEST).
Good luck everyone!

Strawberry Eclair Cloche Hat - Giveaway + Crochet Pattern

Digging through your yarn stash can be quite rewarding at times. Whenever I have a burst of creativity I always go on a hunt throughout my many skeins of yarn before I resort to going out and buying anything new (it's a pretty good, and useful habit!).
A few weeks ago I had a a mini brain storming session about future designs I would love to work on, and one of those designs turned out to be this adorable Strawberry Eclair Cloche Hat.

I love vintage fashion, so once I had the idea for this cloche hat I knew I had to find the perfect cotton yarn that would capture the essence of the flapper era. As I rummaged through dozens of different cotton yarns, I was pleasantly surprised when I stumbled upon a handful of leftover Shiny Happy Cotton skeins that Wool And The Gang had sent me a couple of months ago.
I immediately set to work, and it wasn't long before this cloche hat started to take shape.

If you're in need of an adorable and equally quirky hat this Autumn, it's your lucky day as I've just added the pattern for this cloche hat to my Craftsy and Etsy Shop

Vintage fashion might also be an obsession of yours, and if that's the case, be sure to also crochet either my Downton Abbey Inspired Cloche Hat or this adorable pair of Little Lady Baby Booties!

How To: Crochet The Side Saddle Stitch - Easy Tutorial

A couple of weeks ago Lion Brand sent me a large box filled to the brim with colourful yarns and wools, the best present for any avid crocheter! One of the skeins of yarn immediately caught my eye, with it's luscious colour and soft cotton. Within moments I had my pretty wooden crochet hooks out and I was fiddling around with multiple different crochet stitches.

The Side Saddle Stitch was one of these stitches, as the design has such a distinctive texture to it, making cotton yarn the perfect fit. I only recently learned about this stitch myself, but I was excited to share it with you all as I'm sure you'll be just as eager to learn this stitch so you can use it when crocheting lovely scarves and unique afghans!

Baby, It's Warm Inside - "I Like Crochet" Features!

This weekend when I opened up my laptop I was determined to have a bit of "me" time, and devoted a chunky of time to browsing Pinterest, and catching up on some articles and magazines...
It wasn't long before I noticed that the latest issue of I Like Crochet was available (on iPad and Desktop for those of you that don't know), the best early Christmas present I could have received!
This issue oozes with 26+ festive patterns, from pastel cardigans and shawls to help keep you warm on those chiller days, to cosy throws to cuddle underneath during 'hibernation'... While browsing through this issue I swear I could smell freshly baked cookies, that's just how good it is!

If you have a little one for the first time this chilly Winter, this issue also has a selection of snuggly patterns, as well as two pairs of adorable baby ankle booties I designed exclusively for this issue... How exciting is that?!

When you hear the word "Winter" things like Christmas, icicles, sled rides and snowflakes instantly come to mind. Inspired by what the cooler months have to offer, I designed these frosty Winter Wonderland Baby Booties, embellished with cutest little snowflakes!

Unfortunately, a drawback to the chillier seasons is shorter days, and earlier sunsets. Yet is that really a drawback? Some of my favourite sunsets have been during Winter, as they usually have a cooler and chillier hue to them.
Actually, while working on the second pair of booties you see above I had just witnessed the spectacular colours that the setting sun had cast over the ocean. It was such a beautiful image that I had to encompass the soft lavender sky and creamy sand into these Winter Wisteria Booties in the form of pastel colours.

My Chai Tea Latte Poncho was also added to this amazing collection of crochet patterns! Not only does this poncho ooze with a soft feminine charm, but as the weather sharply turns cooler, having a chic and cosy accessory on hand would not only be practical, but also enjoyable to wear!
The yarn I used for this cuddly poncho was Debbie Bliss's Cashmerino, which not only has a rich and luxurious feel to it, but also comes in the most beautiful and elegant shades...

This Month's Features...
  • Enjoy the festive season this year with 26+ cosy patterns!
  • Cuddle up with a mug of hot chocolate, good book and an Afghan and enjoy hibernating this Winter away. (pictured above).
  •  Add a touch of festive charm to your home this year with an adorable "Crochet Never Melts Pillow"! (pictured above)

How To: Crochet The Granny Stripe Stitch - Easy Tutorial

Most crocheters learned their creative skills from the tutelage of their patient mothers and grandmothers. One of the first projects most crocheters will ever venture to attempt crocheting is the Granny Square
The Granny Square is a staple amongst all crocheters, but if you're anything like me, having to devote hours upon hours to crocheting seperate squares and then joining them together leaves me a bit disinterested.

Due to this very reason I'm sure many of you share in my frustration, which is why I decided to share the Granny Stripe Stitch with you all!

The Granny Stripe Stitch creates a classic and beautifully textured fabric, which is why I'm sure you'll be eager to use this stitch when crocheting cosy heirloom blankets (for all those future grandchildren) and adorable scarves!

Autumn is full of quiet strolls through the park and picnics underneath the shade of a big oak tree... One of my favourite things to do in Autumn is crocheting with a variety of soft and luxurious wools, as it's one of the most enjoyable ways to get ready for hibernation during the cooler months.

Within the assortment I spotted two skeins of the softest cashmere wool, which I couldn't resist whipping up into this pair of adorable Cashmere Avocado Baby Booties! Gingerbread Man Baby Booties - Free Crochet Pattern

Back when I was a tiny tot I would always end up covered in flour from head to toe as my family baked a bunch of Christmas gingerbread cookies!
This has been a tradition since I can't remember when, so till this day I still get outrageously excited when I get to put on my apron, grab my cookie cutters out of the cupboard and bake an array of differently shaped cookies... I can't wait for the day when I'll be able to pass on this special memory to my own children (even if they make a catastrophic mess like I always did)!

Christmas is still a few weeks away, but I couldn't wait any long to get my hands into some dough, which is why I'm planning to bake some cookies in a couple of days time!

In an attempt to behave and not start baking too early, I ended up quickly grabbing some Paintbox Yarn skeins in warm fudge tones and rosy reds out of my stash. But as you can see, my cookie obsession flowed over into my crochet which is how I came up with this darling (and scrumptious pair) of gingerbread man baby booties!

How many of you are always looking for cosy blankets, cardigans and fluffy socks to protect you from the cold and keep you warm? *raises hand*

Personally I've always felt that vintage accessories have the power to transport you back to an era full of jazz music, glamour and closets overflowing with the most beautiful and elegantly made clothes!

Mulberry Shadow Pocket Scarf - Free Crochet Pattern

Since the day I first started crocheting it's always been a fun challenge figuring out exactly what I would like to design. I am often inspired by the unique colours and textures in nature, but one surefire way I am perpetually inspired is by the yarn and wools that I have the joy of working with each and every single day!
Just a little while ago I was actually fortunate enough to stumble upon a Juniper Moon Farm wool over at KnittingFever that I had never had the pleasure of working with before. Immediately I investigated and to my surprise found a bounty of luscious colours, which had me giddy with excitement. It was incredibly hard selecting just one colour to work with, but in the end I chose their Winter Meadow, and I am so happy that I did!

For some time now I've had the idea for a Mulberry Shadow Pocket Scarf brewing in the recess of my mind, which this wool works perfectly for, as not only is it extremely cozy (ideal for crocheting a snuggly scarf), but the shade is just gorgeous!

If you're keen to also add some extra cosiness to your home this Winter, you can easily crochet a cabled throw cushion cover or an extra chunky and whimsical woodland moss basket!

At this very moment strawberry season is in full swing here in Australia, which is an ideal fruit to lunch on to help keep you cool, calm and collected as you enjoy a warm summers day!

A couple of weeks ago when the creative crocheters over at LoveCrochet asked If I'd like to team up with them on a fun and quirky stitch tutorial I immediately knew which stitch I'd want to try my hand at, the Strawberry Stitch!
Due to being overrun by these juicy fruits, I decided to fully enjoy the vibrant reds and gorgeous textures in the form of some Sirdar Cotton DK yarn to help me crochet some adorable "bobbl-icious" strawberries.

If you're an avid crochet-a-holic and excited to soak up some extra crochet knowledge, be sure to hop on over to the LoveCrochet blog for a helpful step-by-step photo tutorial, and written pattern.
The tutorial will guide you through all the necessary steps to learn the "Strawberry Stitch", as you continue on your ever-growing crochet journey!

Swiss Coffee Baby Booties - Giveaway + Crochet Pattern

Of late I have had the pleasure of rediscovering my love of neutral colours... There is such sophistication in simplicity, don't you think?
For those of you that follow along on Instagram, you may have noticed that a little while ago  Lion Brand sent me an array of fluffy, soft, light and chunky yarns to play around with. This same bundle overflowed with an assortment of vibrant colours, along with the most beautiful earthy-toned wools.

As the year lazily draws to an end, I knew I had to whip up a pair of Swiss Coffee Baby Booties in some of their baby alpaca, which ended up creating the most darling pair of booties, perfect for all the little boys and girls to be born in the new year!

If your family is about to have a new addition you'll be excited to hear that I've finally added the pattern for these sweet little booties to my Etsy and Craftsy shops!

Chilly evenings are always an invitation to create more than one pair of booties, so be sure to also create a pair of Pink Lady Booties and a dainty pair of Mint Macaroon Baby Booties to keep those tiny tootsies warm!
